Raft the Rio

On April 30th, join us for “Raft the Rio,” a fun, informative float trip on the Rio Grande in New Mexico from 9am-3pm!  Click here to register.

While enjoying the beautiful scenery that the Rio Grande has to offer, this 9.5 mile, one-day float trip will provide attendees with a “behind the scenes” look at the work being done to rejuvenate the treasured Bosque (riverside ecosystem) near Albuquerque.

Guided by Quiet Waters Paddling Adventures and Far Flung Adventures, attendees will talk with local river experts and explore past, current, and future riverside restoration sites at a few stops along the river, including a tour of Santa Ana Pueblo’s exemplary and ongoing restoration projects.

Local river experts will present an overview on topics such as restoration techniques and management efforts for the invasive plants that have altered the face of the bosque, river-floodplain habitat restoration, details about the endangered species in the area, the impact of water law on riparian restoration work, the tamarisk beetle, the Bosque School's monitoring efforts, and other fun facts about the Rio Grande.

Some of Raft the Rio’s expert speakers include:

You can choose to paddle kayaks, canoes or stand up paddleboards on the easy going Class I water, or just float along from the comfort of a guided raft. Participants will meet at 106 Monument Dr in Bernalillo, NM 87004 at 9am, where we will park our cars and take a shuttle to the put-in at a private ranch at the south end of Algodones.  After stopping for lunch and visiting at a few restoration sites, including Santa Ana Pueblo's resotration project, we will end up back where we parked our cars, at the north end of Corrales (view map).  *Informal discussions may take place on the rafts but speakers will present during scheduled stops to the whole group.

Your support will help ongoing river restoration projects once damaged by invasive, non-native plants.  This trip will be guided (and is sponsored) by Quiet Waters Paddling Adventures and Far Flung Adventures.  Tickets are $95 for non-members, $80 for members - cost includes float, lunch, and drinks.

CLICK HERE to register and reserve your spot on a kayak, canoe, stand-up paddle board, or raft!  Registration ENDS April 15th!
